The company holiday party is today…Am I covered?

This is the time of year when businesses host a company holiday party. Sometime the party is on site and sometimes it isn’t. Our company party is actually held both at our office and THEN we go to a restaurant!

There will be a lot of people at the office walking around the office because we invite our best customers, family and friends. The office tends to get cluttered at this time of year with decorations, etc. “What if someone slips and falls at the party at the office?” Typically, your commercial liability insurance will respond to a slip and fall claim at any time at your business premise. Some policies have an endorsement that limits coverage to the described premise, some don’t. “What if someone slips and falls while off site?” If your policy has a limited premises endorsement, your business policy might NOT cover you. Check with your agent and/or read your policy!

“There will be drinking at our party. What if something happens?” Most of your policies will have host liquor liability coverage, but, some won’t! Go purchase a separate policy meant to cover the special event that you host including the holiday party. It will be inexpensive and provide a lot of coverage in case something happens.

“People tend to loosen up at the holiday party and get loud and obnoxious. What if someone tells a dirty joke and offends someone?” One of the absolute must have coverages is Employers Professional Liability Insurance (EPLI). This coverage will help cover defense costs and damages in cases of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and more. Call Darr Schackow insurance in order to get more information and a quote for EPLI. Click on our video about EPLI and what else it would cover.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays!
